In 2023, I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to participate in the 3rd edition of the African Interpretation Academy (AfIA). It is one of the best decisions I ever made.

Participating in the AfIA LC 6th edition was a truly transformative experience. Right from the outset, the trainers laid down a fundamental principle: seniority does not preclude continuous self-development. This perspective, often a source of anxiety, helped me draw on the humility I needed to progress. The rigors of training combined with methodological analyses, intensive exercises and role playing as closely as possible to real-life situations, combined with individual feed-back, all contributed to a unique experience.

I had the privilege of participating in the 2023 refresher Programme hosted by The African Interpretation Academy in Lomé, Togo. The programme was truly top-notch — carefully designed to meet the needs of both formally trained interpreters and those who have developed their skills on the job. The one-week intensive training significantly enhanced and refined my interpreting abilities. As a practicing conference interpreter, I look forward to taking advantage of similar opportunities in the future to continuously sharpen my skills. I strongly encourage conference interpreters across Africa — and beyond, whether seasoned professionals or newcomers — to take part in the Lomé Course and learn from its highly experienced trainers.
